\nLooks like he'll be a freshman the year after his brother graduates (I'm assuming 7th grade this year, but could be 6th), so no uninterrupted string of Matons to pass the torch.

\nI got the sense that the kids liked the lights, thought running in the dark was fun ... but that visibility was a problem and that it was difficult to judge the pace without the usual visual cues. Kids fell in both races coming up out of the Ronaldo Field. Still, even for the kids who have been to BorderClash before I think they enjoyed it.

\n
\nThat was my sense, too. Great fun for the athletes, so-so for the spectators.

\nOregon did get out and compete a little better than they have in the recent past. Maton's win definitely takes some of the usual sting out for the Oregon crowd. And 8 of the top 14 boys coming from Oregon was FAR better than usual even though that gang of green after Maton sealed the deal for Washington.
\n
\nEfraimson had thoughts earlier of going after Amy-Eloise Neale's record .. .but a last minute change in plan from her coach called for not pushing it too hard in the dark and risking a mis-step or injury, made her a little bit more conservative.

\nThere will be a bunch of video interviews coming soon.","date_added":"Nov 24th 2013, 6:36am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"1082747","email_settings":"4294967295","email":"dbind4@aol.com","address":"DougB","gender":"u","member_id":"44418","member_name":"DougB","avatar_location":"av-44418.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":196256,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg","pb_title":"DougB","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=44418","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/DougB.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1082747"},"920646":{"pb_id":"43715","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"920646","comment_id":"920646","member_id":"43715","comment":"Notable:

\n
\nIt looked late in the race like Oregon's boys might be able to make the score very close, but Washington must have closed really strong. Those 13:53-55 spots might have decided the team battle. Anyone who was surprised by Maton's (or is that Malon's? ;) ) strategy and big move obviously didn't read my race recap from back in September...
\n
\nI thought the Oregon girls would make it a closer race this year, but a couple people at less than full health, combined with WA's relentless wave, made that wishful thinking. Next year!
